DIESEL POWER!!!

Moving around the country with efficiency...
Average 32 mpg!

A great example of backyard engineering. "Let's convert a VW Rabbit engine to diesel!"

"Ok, that works I guess. Only 48 horsepower, but I guess that will kind of move the Rabbit."

"Hey! Here's another idea! Let's try mounting this motor in a 5500lb van! The van was designed for an air cooled rear engine setup, and the engine for a front-engine front drive setup, but if we got some really long hoses we could put the radiator up front. Hey! Hans! GET THE WELDER! We're fitting this engine in here kind of sideways, but I think it will work?"

Yes, this is a fine example of fine German backyard engineering - from when VW still considered wierdos to be an important part of their customer base!! Seems that all automakers have abandoned this potentially lucrative market.
Ok, so it is a little slow, particularly with all of the junk I have along. Always good to have some lead weights? For the scuba gear it's good, but probably not for the van. Cruises fine at 55-65 on the level. Uphill it can be very slow, so enjoy the scenery and hope the people caught behind you enjoy the scenery too! Top speed in my experience was 85mph... in neutral going down a hill...

I have met those crazier than I... those who just like the sound of a diesel engine... For you, this is it... CLICK HERE!

To me it sounds like a Rabbit with rod knock. Of course there's no such thing, as no VW electrical system has ever lasted long enough to allow such an engine failure...
