Kerela
February 21-28, 2007

Despite perhaps staying in the overdeveloped beach area for too long, I really did enjoy Kerela.  The highlight for me was the ride on the public ferry from Kottayam to Alleppey.  Moving down the quiet and plant choked narrow waterways, stopping or more just slowing down to pick up villagers on their way to little towns along the way.

I suppose it probably helped that I had just finished reading The God of Small Things, which takes place in Kerela.  At first I had only pictured it, and now I got to see it.

Few words here...  The photos of course tell the story better.

Yet another video of another procession in India...  It is normal for traffic to be partially blocked by such things.  Most of the processions are for weddings, but I'm not sure what this one was for?  Notable at the end, guys walking and dancing with tall pots of flowers balanced on their heads.  Quite impressive to see - the dance, not the video!
