Goa and Mumbai
January 2007

Not so many photos from Goa this time around.  Nice beaches populated primarily with foreign tourists.  It was good to see some areas with Indian tourists though.  Glad we haven't completely taken over yet...  There was a little bit of India left in a few places.  Not a good thing when the locals can't afford to be anything more than servants at the big resorts...  Feels a bit colonial.  While I did enjoy the beaches, they just didn't seem to inspire photos?  Also I didn't bother going to the big trance parties.  Not really my thing these days.

And then there's Mumbai...  An overnight train ride and a world apart.  It seems that I really enjoy the
big cities in India.  So much distance to walk with so many different districts and contrasts.  Mumbai went to the extremes more than Kolkata, at least in my limited wanderings.  I wandered the streets and markets, made it to most of the tourist sights, got lost in the suburbs and saw the Dalai Lama speak.  If only I could have heard him?!?  My past as audio engineer was screaming silently at the poor microphone placement... The audience was mostly westerners...   While not a place for swimming or sunbathing, Chowpatty in Mumbai proved to be a more compelling beach than Goa for my tastes and current state of mind...

Video?  Why do I bother?  Well, I actually like the Chowpatty ones...  Human powered rides.  Watch the ferris wheel one for turning by hand and then riding down to get extra speed.  It looked like more of a thrill running the ride than riding it, and quite a workout...  I don't have video of it, but the boat/swing did get going pretty high with two people pushing.  It's not so high on my video.  You'll see what I mean in both cases...

Ferris wheel and jumps... Boat ride...
