Jaisalmer, India
December 2006

Ah, the desert....  Sometimes I enjoy the solitude of the desert, though at times I'll admit solitude was difficult to find at times with the many touts pushing me towards a camel ride at any and all times.  10km out in the desert and having someone telling me it was too far to walk and I needed to purchase a camel trek?  I had ridden a camel before in Egypt, so there was no new thrill to the idea.  The camel trek seems to involve mildly abused animals and handlers constantly pushing for tips.  Not my thing.  I also have noted that I often prefer exploring places on my own, finding the group and guide to be distracting and stifling.  To each his own...  That said, once I learned to ignore the camel trek sellers the region was quite a nice experience.  Hard to ignore someone who comes running though...

I felt that I had been moving too fast in India, and this seemed like a good time to slow down.  I stayed more days than expected, making my usual claim that I would be writing, organizing photos, updating the web page, etc.  For the most part though, I just walked around.  This is what I do...  Staying awhile I began to relax more and to enjoy the oddly ordered chaos that is India.  This set is Jaisalmer and Khuri.
